Sizing:
We’ve done all
the tedious work to answer those “cute, but will it fit?” questions no doubt
running through your mind.
Because of the
variations in garment sizing from decade to decade and designer to designer, we
almost never refer to the numerical size listed on the garment tag (if there is
one). Instead, we carefully measure each garment (twice!) and then list a
general size range next to the photo to help you determine which items are
right for you. Detailed measurements are then included in the item
description because we’re nothing if not thorough!
General size
ranges are:
XS
0-2
S
4-6
M
6-8
L
10-12
Some garments
are oversized or may fit a range of sizes depending on how they are styled
(ponchos, capes, tunics, etc.) These items will be listed as “OS”.
When we measure
a garment, measurements are taken with the garment laid flat. All
measurements pertinent to the design and construction of the item will be
listed. Please note measurements for knitwear and other items that
stretch will refer to the “relaxed” dimensions.
We take great
care to make sure our measurements are accurate. To ensure that ‘fits
like it was made for me’ moment however, we need to ask for a little bit of
help from you. Simply take your own measurements (be honest!), then
compare those numbers to the garment measurements, being sure to allow for the
fit that best suits your body (petite, long-legged, boyish) and your style
(body-hugging, structured, slouchy, etc.).
Another great
idea is to choose a favorite item from your closet, one that fits you
perfectly, and compare the measurements of the two items.
Wondering about
our babelicious mannequin, Sally? We know, brickhouse, right?. Her
enviable measurements are as follows:
Bust: 34” Waist:
26” Hips: 36”
Please keep in
mind some of the garments she’s wearing have been pinned or clipped for styling
purposes (always noted in the item description as we believe strongly in full
disclosure here!) which is why we highly recommend you refer to the actual
garment measurements when perusing the goods.
If you have any
questions about how a garment fits, please contact us and we’ll be happy to
provide additional information.
Condition:
All of our
clothing has been previously owned, previously worn, and previously loved and
there will be subtle signs that your garment is not brand new.
However …
We carefully and
thoroughly inspect each item for flaws (again, twice!) that may affect appearance
or wearability. There may be minor issues such as evidence of wear on
inside seams or a brass button that’s not quite as shiny as it once was. We can
assure you however, that there will be no missing buttons or broken zippers, no
visible stains, no ripped seams and nothing will smell funny. Your
garment will be shipped clean, pressed, and carefully packaged so that
you can enjoy the instant gratification of wearing it right away!
In a nutshell,
we won’t sell you anything that we wouldn’t wear ourselves. And we are
P-i-c-k-y (note the capital ‘P’!).
Care:
Some items may
be missing care instructions as tags have previously been removed or may be
illegible. Therefore, we suggest you consult a garment care specialist
(aka your dry cleaner) to determine appropriate cleaning methods. We do
not guarantee the washability of any garment.
