We're so not hosting a fancy shmancy partaay in honor of THE red carpet event of the year this Sunday. Nor are we planning to "nosh on Chinese take-out in our pj's" while watching said event as all those non-nominated/invited SAG card holders always swear they do when the subject comes up in an interview.

Nope.

Knowing the two of us, we'll likely hit the middle by donning athletic gear that can pass for actual clothing in a pinch and engaging in the typical 'pick something up or wing it' dinner argument with our significant others whilst perched on our respective sofas engaging in our very own text-driven version of Fashion Police.

Not to say we wouldn't love to throw on any of these gorgeous pieces and do the same...minus the husbands, toddler, dogs, and inevitably quizzical WTF? looks we'd be getting from all three...

As much as the Better Me would like to deny it, truth is I was totally dialed in to the red carpet last Sunday, albeit mostly via DVR as the annual snoozefest rendered me drowsier than usual with this year’s seemingly endless parade of beaded metallic slipdresses and reruns of the predictable strapless fishtail numbers.

I kept waiting (and waiting and waiting) for a Gwyneth Moment, when someone took a risk and took advantage of all couture has to offer.

Didn’t happen.

Not to say there weren’t some … ummmm… “interesting” choices.

I call bullshit. I know if I were invited, or…gasp!…honored at such an event, I would overthink what I was wearing to the point of losing my hair. You have Chanel, Balenciaga, Giorgio, Vivienne, Oscar all pandering to dress you and you opt for “comfortable”? I’ll call it again. Bullshit.

Lucy Liu. Love it or hate it, you have to admit that you couldn’t take your eyes off her brave choice.

And then there was Jenny, From the Block. Only now with cash and access but still consistently J-Lo and always true to her outer diva . You know exactly what she’s gonna bring and she does it better every time.

Prompted by one of our most favorites, the unabashed clean slate presented by a brand new year, and what we consider to be downright frigid temps, we've been pondering the idea of upping the ante on our standard cold weather uniform (read: sweater-leggings-boots-repeat...possibly with denim to "mix it up").

Of course, comfort is of the utmost importance to us both yet rarely lends itself to a chic ensemble. Barely into the winter months, we're b-o-r-e-d with our options. And tired of feeling schlumpy. And deathly allergic to layering more than two or three pieces at a time (and yes, lingerie counts as one).

THAT TIME OF YEAR...AGAIN?!?

It's always fun trying to come up with something to wear to the dreaded (did I just say that?) company holiday party. In my case, it's only the husband's shindig I ever have to worry about. Lucky me, right?

Regardless, it's become something of a sport wracking that overtaxed it's-that-time-of-the-year-where-according-to-Susan-we-all-live-off-of-lattes-and-a-box-of-holiday-candy brain of mine in an attempt to put together a "look" worthy of said occasion.

In years past I've left those in attendance visibly perplexed with my opaque tights, slouchy shorts and booties get up and scratching their heads when I donned a fitted strapless sheath over cigarette pants in my very own Bitch Stole My Look interpretation of a favorite Gwyneth Paltrow ensemble.

As for the 2012 gathering (or whatever ends up gracing the social calendar for that matter), I'm feeling like this lovely little voile number would be absolutely perfect. Totally gorgeous, fabulously unique, and a veritable dress code chameleon once shoes and accessories work their way into the picture.
